Nilojan an AL student was identified as having a serious Kidney infection which required Kidney Transplant. He was brought to Colombo in late May 2007 for treatment, and there it was noticed that he also had an heart ailment known as PDA or generally known as hole in the heart. As the family could
not raise the funds for these surgeries, many friends and relatives in Point Pedro rallied round and raised about Rs.800,000. The global branches of Hartley PPA took over from there and raised within a short span a sum of Rs 1.4 Million. Nilojan went through heart corrective surgery in June 2007, and
the Kidney Transplant in September 2007. As he continued having certain infection, he went through a third surgery in December 2007, where the oldkidney has been removed. Currently he is recuperating from the surgery

Dear All,

I visited Nilojan and his parents today. After his 3rd surgery on the 15th of December 2007, to remove the old kidney, Nilojan returned to his temporary home in Colombo exactly a month i.e 9th of January 2008. He is doing well since then, and looks much better. He is still on medication and visits the Doctor once in 2 weeks time. Because of this need the family has decided to stay in Colombo till end April. After a stay of almost 6 months in Hospital Nilojan is enjoying stay in a spacious house down Rajasinghe Road in Wellawatte. Nilojan;s father mentioned that they almost spent Rs 1 Million on the last surgery. I mentioned to them that with the last Rs.90,000 given (to date given Rs1.36 Million) , no more funds could be expected from the PPA's around the world. The fact that they have rented a spacious home, and have managed the surgery and medical costs in the past 2 months show that they have had other cash inflows. The father says its from well wishers and other family members. They have made an application to Presidents Fund, but the application has been returned seeking additional information. I promised to help out in this matter. If successful, they may get a maximum of Rs.300,000.

Regards
Shan
